What Kept Us Apart For 45 Years?
In 1977, a fender bender on a Houston freeway changed my life. Lance was 19, I was 24, and what followed were four extraordinary years hitchhiking through 40 American states, Central America, Turkey, and Australia—living in fake marriages, trusting strangers completely, and navigating a world without phones or social media.
Then, in 1980, a misunderstanding involving chicken cacciatore separated us for 45 years.
In August 2024, my nephew Nathaniel captured our first real conversation since that day in Sydney. For 50 minutes, we laughed, shared stories from both sides, and finally understood what went wrong.
These ten episodes chronicle our wild journey together—from how we met to the waterfall rescue in Mexico, from magic mushrooms at Mayan ruins to smuggling trips in Turkey, and ultimately to the confusion that kept us apart for nearly half a century.
Some connections never fade.
The full story is told in my memoir, "A Hitchhiker's Guide to Life."
